Malin Åkerman has that eternally sunny demeanour and go-getter attitude that simply radiates LA energy, but regardless, we still fondly claim the Stockholm-born star as our own. And Malin is the first to embrace her Swedishness – you’ll catch her with a ‘kokt korv med bröd’ in hand, wandering through Saluhallen and ice-skating with her son at Kundsträgården during her time here for the premier of her new Swedish feature film Ett Sista Race (the perfect watch for families over the holidays). Growing up, Malin regularly visited her father in Falsterbro – an exclusive coastal destination in south-western Sweden where I also spent part of my childhood – and she still keeps many Swedish customs and traditions alive in her daily life across the Atlantic.
As a mainstay on our screens for decades, we’ve come to know and love Malin for her bubbly rom-com charm and knack for comedy. But as the star of Vogue Scandinavia’s latest digital cover, Malin reveals a new revved-up, edgier side to herself.

On set, Malin almost surprised herself with how cool she looked in the season's sexiest leather looks and moto-inspired fashion. Despite all her years in Hollywood, Malin has maintained her sweet, down-to-earth nature – she didn’t hesitate once while directed to pose amongst stacks of tires, oil-stained towels and heavy-duty machinery. The only polite request the star made was for a small heater (a reasonable request given Stockholm’s chilly temperatures, especially for an LA resident) though I learned that she still bravely embraces ice bathing when she comes home to Sweden.
The supercharged ‘hot rod’ styling of our cover is not only in keeping with Malin’s fun new road-runner film release but perfectly captures how the star is switching things up a gear to build a “new era” for herself in her 40s – which you can read all about in our exclusive story.
