Celebrating 80 years of Tove Jansson’s Moomin legacy, Acne Studios launches a whimsical capsule collection we can't help but covet
2025 marks 80 years since Tove Jansson’s beloved Moomin characters first appeared in the often-overlooked picture book The Moomins and the Great Flood in 1945. To celebrate the occasion, numerous events and collaborations have been planned. In Finland, special museum exhibitions at Helsinki’s Art Museum and the Moomin Museum in Jansson’s hometown, Tampere, will take place throughout the year, while popular Swedish kidswear brand Polarn O. Pyret is pairing its iconic stripes with Moomin characters for the first time.
More notably, Acne Studios has kicked off the festivities early with a Moomin-themed capsule collection that we can’t help but covet. This special collaboration with Tove Jansson’s fantastical Moomin universe features Jansson’s cast of characters – from the classic Moomintroll to the Snorkmaiden and the mischievous Little My – scattered across striped shirts and light wash denim.
An adorable baby T-shirt, showing a love-struck Moomintroll on a blue-striped background, pairs perfectly with a black cap featuring the Snorkmaiden and Moomintroll cuddling on a pink cloud. Elsewhere, the whimsical characters grace grey T-shirts, hoodies, and the breast pocket of a knitted cardigan. Best of all, a selection of knitted accessories with Moomin figures promises to keep the winter chill at bay in the cutest way possible.
That said, we can’t help but favour the maximalist charm of the Moomintroll shirt and jeans, which showcase all our favourite childhood characters on one surprisingly fashionable canvas.
