Acne Studios - SS25 Menswear

Acne Studios creative director Jonny Johansson took the brand in a supernatural direction for the Swedish brand’s spring/summer 2025 menswear collection. “What if this season’s character was a superhero?” he wondered, further musing, “I think what’s interesting with clothing is that it can empower you. I can feel really strong just having the right clothing at the right moment.” Leaning into the theme, motifs of DC superheroes Wonderwoman, Catwoman, the Huntress, and the Drowned popped up across the collection, embroidered and printed as if collaged directly from the pages of a comic book. These inclusions were the product of a collaboration between Acne Studios and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, allowing Johansson to explore the “mythical” side of these heroes that makes them “cooler” than their male counterparts.

Literal depictions of superheroes aside, the collection was imbued with a sense of confidence and capability. Exquisite tailoring brought an air of authority later in the lookbook and youthful layering highlighted the textural diversity of the collection throughout. Neoprene and leather found unexpected harmony with denim and wool, while trompe l'oeil printed keychains kept things playful. Accessories ranged from the functional to the purely decorative, from a camera-bag inspired bag and baseball caps to gem-inset earrings. Combining all these contrasts in texture, shape, and mood, the collection truly embodied that superhero character Johansson sought to represent.
