This season, Danish brand Aiayu showcased a timeless and versatile collection that put the brand's essence – natural materials and craftsmanship – at the fore
With its autumn/winter ‘25 presentation, ‘Notes on Materials’, Aiayu swept attendees into the soul of the Danish label: pure natural fabrications and craftsmanship. Showcased at the brand’s home – housed in the historic, former post and telegraph building in Østerbro – a striking element hinted at what’s to come, as a cloud-like installation, named ‘The Soft Wall’, crafted from Aiayu fabrics in a range of hues and textures, welcomed the guests. Boosting the magical mood was Danish cellist Cæcilie Trier, whose mellifluous sounds enveloped the space as models floated across and paused for the audience to take a closer look at the AW25 garments.
“For us, inspiration is a continuous process, untethered to seasons,” explains Maria Høgh Heilmann, creative director of Aiayu. “We always seek inspiration from the materials and their origins, allowing them to guide our designs. This collection is a tribute to the craftsmanship and the artisans behind.”
With nature’s rustic colour palette as its guiding force, Aiayu’s AW25 collection channels shades found in autumnal scenery, with Høgh Heilmann noting “seasonal change of fallen leaves, sunlit fields and earth tones,” as core influences. Much like the brand’s spring/summer ‘25 line-up, Aiayu’s signature undyed fabrics – made from responsibly sourced natural fibres from both animal and plant origins – take centre stage in the AW25 offering, appearing in subdued Pantones of buttery yellows, warm browns, solid blacks and soft greys.
This season, the brand hones in on its hallmark of refined everyday essentials, this time imbued with Japanese sensibilities, designed to be layered, mixed and matched. A straight-cut wool mini skirt pairs with a coordinating structured coat, while relaxed organic cotton shirting lends itself to easy stacking and coupling with laidback tailoring and chill-proof knitwear.
Knitwear, in fact, was one the main focuses this season, with Høgh Heilmann spotlighting a piece she describes as “the most perfect cardigan”, fashioned from soft-as-cloud GOTS-certified cashmere. Other highlights include hand-knitted chunky sweaters made by Bolivian artisans using undyed llama and yak wool. Among Høgh Heilmann’s personal favourites? An airy moss green organic cotton jacket, coated with olive oil – an homage to a vintage treasure she once unearthed in Paris.
