From Timothée Chalamet to Lady Gaga, here is every look from the "In America" themed bash of 2021
Held on the second Monday in September 2021, fashion’s night of nights returned after a year hiatus. And while the Met Gala wasn't bigger than ever, due to Covid-restrictions, it was still very much a sight for the sartorial senses.
Like always, the star-studded guest list were dressed by designers, who've interpreted a certain theme, which in 2021 was “In America: The lexicon of fashion”. Talking of the theme, Andrew Bolton, the Wendy Yu Curator in Charge of the Costume Institute, said, “American fashion is undergoing a renaissance” due to social justice and political movements of recent years, making it the right “time to reexamine American identity and fashion” now.
This idea was further shown by the choice of cochairs - Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish, Amanda Gorman, and Naomi Osaka who represented a younger generation who want to make a change for the better. As Vogue dictates trends and sets agendas, 2021's red carpet was one that embraces diversity, inclusivity, transparency, and sustainability.
