Taking a punk approach to the romance of renaissance crinolines and a flush of Victorian berry blush, Alva Bratt's beauty look dazzled on Guldbaggegalan's red carpet last night

Perfect porcelain skin, feathery brows, and subtle definition around the eyes — topped off with just-pinched cheeks and a hint of red on the lips. Whether describing a classic Gibson Girl or Alva Bratt’s tousled curls and fresh-faced look at last night’s Guldbaggegalan, the comparison is unavoidable. Right down to the deconstructed Hodakova corset she wore to the Swedish Film Awards, the aesthetic nods to a bygone era whilst staying thoroughly modern.

When it came to beauty, Bratt took charge of her own makeup brushes, leaving her glossy waves to hairstylist Sara Standefeldt of Salon Hej!. True to Bratt’s signature style, the overall result was polished, with the berry-toned blush applied low on the cheeks drawing parallels to those Victorian-era, Gibson Girls.

The real show-stopper, though, was the wash of cherry red lipstick, precisely carved and impressively long-wearing. “It’s all about always keeping your bullet really close at hand,” Bratt joked, revealing the secret behind her perfect pout.

The rest of her look featured a Comme des Garçons crinoline from No Cricket Stockholm, sourced with the help of stylist Samuel Lejon and costume designer Leona Lundback. “I wanted something that matched my taste, and this is exactly my style. I had an idea in mind and searched in different places to bring it to life,” said Bratt, who loves blending Renaissance references with punk elements in her wardrobe. The final ensemble was a striking testament to Bratt’s flair for fusing the old and the new, with Victorian cues reimagined through a contemporary Swedish lens.
