The star of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga paraded through Hollywood in a leather mini dress straight off the Swedish fashion house’s runway
Late last week, Anya Taylor-Joy made a grand appearance on the streets of Los Angeles to promote her next film, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. Despite the dramatic arrival (the actor and her co-star, Chris Hemsworth, pulled up in a motorcycle-drawn chariot), it was Taylor-Joy in her leather dress that stole the spotlight. The look was pulled directly from Acne Studios’ autumn/winter 2024 runway, and featured moulded black leather to create an exaggerated silhouette.
Acne Studios has become known for their precise leather tailoring, and the cinched fit of this look perfectly contrasted the tattered edges of the sleeves and hem. With a zipper running the length of the dress and a tight, rounded collar, Taylor-Joy looked as ready for a motorcycle race as she was for a high-fashion photoshoot. While the dress was styled minimally on the runway, Taylor-Joy took creative licence with her accessories: he red bottoms of the actor’s stiletto heels perfectly matched her lipstick, while her Tiffany & Co. jewellery glimmered as she strutted past the crowds that gathered along Hollywood Boulevard.
Not only was her Acne Studios dress a fashion triumph, but it also referenced the film itself. Taking a page from Zendaya’s book of dressing to theme on press tours, the Golden Globe Award-winning actor pulled in elements of the leather and metal that dominate Furiosa’s tough aesthetic (albeit with a little less dirt and rust). The film, which is a prequel spin-off to the 2015 blockbuster, Mad Max: Fury Road, will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and be released globally later this month. Until then, stay tuned; Anya Taylor-Joy is sure to keep us on our toes in more daring looks.
