What do seaweed and sustainability have in common? The answer lies in Bite Studios' spring/summer 2023 collection
Bite Studios has been treading the sartorial line between art and fashion since 2016. Operating out of Stockholm and London, the brand is dedicated to honing a certain joie de vivre in its pieces – a feat firmly accomplished for spring/summer 2023. When examining the new season, the playful pieces verge towards understated drama in the dramatic waistlines, fold-ups, dropped necklines, asymmetric cuts, and architectural shapes. Combining sprightly sorbet shades with crisp whites and hints of silver grey, the lineup of looks leave us longing for the collection's release date.
While the collection speaks for itself, without much need for 'zhooshing', Bite Studios has partnered with French artist Violaine Buet on a small assortment of accessories. Using classic artisanal textile techniques, Buet worked away in her studio in Brittany to hand-weave clutches using a combination of linen warp and seaweed to develop a soft yet durable low-impact material. Furthermore, the seaweed fabric inspired Buet to create two sculptural rings, a knitted seaweed knot and a cube crafted from dried red seaweed.
A leader in the realm of conscious luxury, the foundation of Bite's approach to sustainability is the idea of the exquisitely made. Designs and pieces are trans-seasonal and tailored to shifting tastes, whilst embracing the ever-changing modern woman in their style and construction. For spring/summer 2023, 98.3 per cent of the luxury materials used are organic, recycled, or low impact – such as organic cotton, ethical and regenerative wool, organic silk, recycled cashmere, sustainable viscose EcoveroTM and Enka FSC®, and Cupro, among others.
