Mats Sundin, William Nylander and Ingemar Stenmark joined Swedish actors, models and industry stars to celebrate the release of Börje
Börje, a six-episode series that lands on Viaplay this Sunday 19th November, honours the life of the legend Börje Salming. So it was only fitting that a slew of sports legends showed up to the show’s premiere to pay tribute to the late, great hockey hero.
Held at Södra Teatern in Södermalm, the event drew heavyweights from Mats Sundin (who, like Salming, made his mark on the game playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs) to current Leafs star William Nylander to alpine legend Ingemar Stenmark. Not to mention a who’s who of Swedish actors, models and good old fashioned hockey fans (supermodel Caroline Winberg’s son was especially thrilled to meet his hockey heroes).
Even with all that star power, the true icons of the evening were Valter Skarsgård and Hedda Stiernstedt, who play Salming and his first wife, Margitta, respectively. Dressed in the latest Ben Cobb for Tiger of Sweden collection (a fitting choice, given that the series is set in Salming’s '70s heyday), the duo beamed as they took in the result of a emotionally challenging (and equally rewarding) project. This is the sort of evening that makes one proud to live in Stockholm (especially if, like me, you’re from Toronto). But the proudest in the room? Valter’s dad, Stellan.
Go Leafs go. See all the images below.
