With six bespoke vases setting the scene and artist (and brand muse) Conie Vallese in attendance, By Malene Birger’s intimate soirée was a highlight of Paris Fashion Week
Last week, fashion insiders, artists and friends of By Malene Birger were welcomed to Place des Vosges during fashion week for an intimate aperitivo to celebrate the Danish brand's latest collection. The collection's muse, artist Conie Vallese, a longtime friend of the Danish brand, set the scene with six bespoke vases (available through By Malene Birger). Rendered in the same colour scheme as By Malene Birger's spring/summer '25 collection, these delicate glass sculptures perfectly complemented creative director Maja Dixdotter's indelible offering.
Vallese's way of life, sense of style and artistic work – from decorative objects in bronze to textiles and ceramics – also served as inspiration for By Malene Birger's SS25 collection, packed with tactile fabrics, floral details, and sculptural accessories. Dixdotter, a long-time admirer of the Vallese's work, shared her excitement ahead of the event. “When thinking of a woman to design this collection for, Conie was the first person that came to mind,” she says. Vallese echoed the sentiment, saying, “We’ve admired each other’s work for a long time, so it felt natural to come together again—something we both wanted to explore more deeply.”
Rather than function as a typical collection launch, the gathering was more a celebration of two creative visions coming together and reinforcing each other. “It’s not about creating a product, but about sharing ideas and getting inspired by each other,” Dixdotter explained. The SS25 collection seamlessly blends the brand’s signature elegance with Vallese’s artistic signature, with standout pieces like flowing dresses adorned with handcrafted floral appliqués.
The setting of the soirée was as artistic as By Malene Birger's collection itself. For example, Vallese’s aforementioned vases, which will be available through By Malene Birger – created a personal atmosphere that felt more like a home than an event. Then there was food artist Andrea Sham's unforgettable menu, with autumnal cakes, pastel candy clouds, and savoury éclairs. Delicate cheese tartlets and white chocolate-dipped fruits added a playful yet sophisticated touch.
As guests mingled in the brand’s Parisian home away from home, the evening felt less about a showcase and more about connection. Both Vallese and Dixdotter value craftsmanship and creativity in a world that often feels fast-paced and disposable. “I try not to create things that are merely visually pleasing but that are unique, made with intention,” Vallese remarked. Dixdotter’s designs embodied a similar philosophy, crafting garments that prioritise both style and substance. “Each piece is designed
for women who value a thoughtful approach to fashion,” she added.
As the evening unfolded, it offered a welcome pause amidst the hectic energy of Paris Fashion Week – a moment to reflect on the artistry that goes into creating something truly meaningful. “We appreciate each other’s work and world,” Vallese said, summing up the evening’s uplifting spirit, a reminder that true creativity is about lifting each other up and cherishing shared vision.
