A tongue-in-cheek comment on recent “middleclass” controversies or a testament to Cate Blanchett’s dedication to sustainable fashion? Either way, the actor looked divine wearing Swedish brand Hodakova for a second time on the Disclaimer red carpet at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival

Cate Blanchett is one of very few celebrities who could effortlessly pull off silverware on the red carpet. A point perfectly proven when the actor stepped in front of the photo wall at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival to promote her new film Disclaimer. The look was simple: razor-sharp stilettos and a snug black suit lined with a row of silver spoons, designed homegrown Swedish talent Hodakova, of course.

This is not the first time Blanchett has been spotted in the the brand's eclectic designs. When getting dressed for the Los Angeles premiere of Borderlands, Cate Blanchett was not just seen but heard, thanks to the metallic rattling of the 102 antique kitchen spoons layered onto her Hodakova top – a sound that the Swedish designer and 2024 LVMH Prize finalist fittingly describes as “cacophonous spoons.” Considering the racket of her top, Blanchett kept the rest of her look simple with black trousers, point-toe pumps, and slicked-back hair.

For the Los Angeles event, Blanchett’s stylist, Elizabeth Stewart, took to Instagram to sing designer Ellen Hodakova Larsson praises, stating that she is “changing the conversation of what sustainable fashion means today.” “Ellen uses heirlooms like these vintage spoons sourced in the Swedish countryside to create unexpected proportions and new associations. Grandma would be proud!” Stewart captioned a post.

If we were to speculate, the choice of silver spoons might also be a jovial call-back to the controversy surrounding Blanchett’s recent comments calling herself “middle class.” But whether she intended to stir the sartorial pot or not, we’re eager for another spoonful of Blanchett wearing Hodakova.
