Cecilie Bahnsen - SS25

By Clare McInerney

The Danish designer maintains an ethereal mood while upping cultural credentials in collaboration with The North Face, Asics and Japanese artist Takashi Homma

“Takashi Homma and I once discussed shooting in the mountains outside Tokyo – a journey we have yet to take," Danish designer Cecilie Bahnsen communicated in the show notes for her namesake brand's SS25 offering, dubbed 'The Crux'. “This collection, however, is a tribute to those mountains, their beauty and the inspiration they hold, as well as Takashi’s unique artistic vision.” The Japanese photographer and artist was not only engaged to create the visuals that projected around the runway space, but also the soundscape of tonal music that transported show-goers.

Bahnsen's collaborative spirit didn't end there, though. Countering the signature cloud-like silhouettes and diaphanous floral-embellished dresses, duffel bags were carried and backpacks slung over shoulders courtesy of the brand's partnership with The North Face. Meanwhile, the cast of models, which included professional rock climbers, athletes, dancers and artists, were grounded by hard-working footwear designed in collaboration with Asics.

You can take the designers out of Copenhagen, but you can't take Copenhagen out of the designs – a sentiment with now applies to fellow Danish Paris Fashion Week export Ganni. It remains evident in the interplay of whimsy and practicality, the artful proportions and elegant ease.
