As the Gladiator II press tour comes to its conclusion, Danish actor Connie Nielsen reflects on her unmissable red carpet looks
The Los Angeles premiere of Ridley Scott’s epic Gladiator II has just ended and the star-studded after party has begun across the street from the Chinese Theatre at the historic Roosevelt Hotel on Hollywood Boulevard. The hotel, which used to host the Oscars in the Golden Age of Hollywood, has been transformed into an ancient Roman setting and Connie Nielsen is at the centre of the action. A few hours ago, the 59-year-old Dane turned heads on the red carpet in an elegant black gown with a sheer skirt – the second Del Core gown she’s worn as of late.
“Daniel Del Core is a genius!” exclaims Nielsen. “He created the incredible dress that I wore at the world premiere in London and tonight he offered me this gorgeous dress to wear and it is a piece of architectural genius. It just makes me feel very pretty, and I will not mention the fact that the corset is killing me right now, because at the same time it makes me feel so good.”
Nielsen has travelled the world with co-stars Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal and Denzel Washington, steadily establishing herself as a red carpet star one gown at a time. There was the lemon yellow Stella McCartney look in Sydney. The sparking gold and silver-plated Dundas gown in Tokyo. In Copenhagen, she wore midnight blue sequinned Galvan and in London, the aforementioned blue goddess-like Del Core masterpiece, designed exclusively for the event.
“I am so very excited that the film is finally going to come out now, so that the fans can see it,” says Nielsen as the world tour comes to an end. “It is a very exciting moment and the whole experience has been kind of magical. But we are also exhausted because we have travelled all over the world with the film, so now I look forward to going home to my own bed and seeing my kids and my dog.”
