The Danish brand's spring/summer '25 collection serves up monochromatic Scandi minimalism with sustainability at its core
A nondescript, white-walled gallery in Copenhagen’s Meatpacking district morphed into the stage for Danish brand Berner Kühl’s spring/summer ’25 runway show. Models emerged, striding through the crowded, minimalist space with faces as blank as the walls, mirroring the melancholic strains of the solo violinist poised in the centre of the room.
This season, the label, currently under the CPHFW Newtalent program, has embraced a modular wardrobe approach – a concept central to the brand’s philosophy. “By exploring the same style in different materials and offering various styles in the same fabrication, we emphasise our commitment to ultimate materiality,” says founder Frederik Berner Kühl. The SS25 collection disrupts conventional consumption by presenting multiple interpretations of the same design, all driven by a spirit of discovery.
At the core of the brand’s ethos is the belief that innovation can sprout from existing resources. Consequently, deadstock fabrics take centre stage in the spring/summer collection. These materials have been transformed into sleek and sophisticated pieces with a monochromatic colour palette of clean whites, greys, and blacks, reflecting the simplicity of the line-up. As they say, the devil lies in the details: sharp cuts, the shape of the trousers, the fit of the jeans, impeccably tailored coats, and the interplay of textures. “Our goal is to create long-lasting garments, meticulously crafted to endure. Every detail is vital in extending the product’s lifespan,” Berner Kühl continues.
Ultimately, the brand envisions a future where dressing becomes a more mindful and curated practice. Its latest line-up embodies this vision, showcasing the value of a versatile capsule wardrobe. “As we look ahead, we must consider how to dress in a future with fewer resources,” says Berner Kühl. “Scarcity and restraint present new opportunities.”
