Lovechild 1979 - SS25

Behind Copenhagen's royal residence, Lovechild 1979 explored layered workwear and sense of tactile duality with its spring/summer '25 collection

For being such an undressed lineup of looks – with ample skin on display – Lovechild 1979’s spring/summer 2025 collection was surprisingly layered. Yes, there were the usual references to the brand’s juxtaposing “dualities”, according to design manager Hanne Yoo Andersenne: the “masculine versus feminine,” the “raw versus refined”, and the “occasional versus everyday” of it all.

But arguably, it was the literal layers that left us longing for Lovechild 1979’s spring/summer 2025 collection. It could be found in the flouncing grey of a tiered silk dress and the pop of cotton underwear atop a high-shine pencil skirt, in the exaggerated sky blue cuff peaking out from a pinstriped jacket, and in the transparency of a dramatic draped dress. It was tactile, to say the least, with open-knits, heavy-duty leather and tufted denim with organza and silk and the slight shine of the innovative textile Naia acetate, produced from pine and eucalyptus wood. 

The colour palette remained muted, with corn yellow being a key player – inspired by sculptor Eva Hesse’s body of work – against a base of neutrals and minty greens. “Just like Hesse’s work, we have built up around the tactile fabrics – raw denim and cotton, sheer transparent and soft blends – and worked with knots and ropes, hoping to evoke a sense of discovery with each piece,” shares Yoo Andersenne.

The venue and choice of music were also critical in bringing the collection to life, according to Yoo Andersenne. Hosted in Amaliehaven – the backyard of the royal residences – the models walked along pathways many Danes take on their route to work. “The narrative of “going to work” and “going home from work” and how our attire shifts and merges in the notion of being at/off work has throughout the process of making the collection been a talking point for us,” says Yoo Andersenne. “And we spoke a lot about work-life balance in connection to it, and how the various stages are more fluent these days, with work being a part of our persona and social media telling our stories parallel to our everyday lives.”
