OpéraSport - SS25

By Josefin Forsberg

Tending a garden of signature frills, recycled fabrics, ruching and scrunched bags, this season OpéraSport continued to operate in familiar territory

Facing the bay in Operaparken, Copenhagen Fashion Week show-goers attending OpéraSport’s spring/summer 2025 runway were framed by rugged flower beds this season – a nod to the root inspiration behind the collection: the baroque Exillion Garden. A “hidden gem” just North of the city according to co-founders Stephanie Gundelach and Awa Malina Stelter, this private park and outdoor concert venue traced the season’s familiarly scrunched handbags, off-set necklines and ruched detailing.

“We started the process last summer when we visited the Exillion Garden,” shared Stelter, who pin-points that the duo’s “creative journey” began in the location’s blend of formal and precise lines and the “harmonious integration of nature and architecture”. Capturing these elements and pruning them to fit in the OpéraSport universe, Gundelach and Stellar translated the manicured garden into quilted prints, embroidery, and a floral colour palette populated with primary colours.

While the collection expands on previous seasons, OpéraSport’s distinct DNA was cultivated in every cut and silhouette. Notably, there were more dresses than ever before on the runway and some key pieces that caught our eyes were ripe with rural romanticism (fittingly, a proclivity shared by the Marie Antoinette’s of the design duo’s referential baroque era). Striped skirts were sliced with cottage-core frills and the brand’s very own chemise à la reine took on a distinctly OpéraSport 1990s silhouette in the form of a lace-trimmed white slip dress. Sporty swimwear detailed with dainty bows were styled alongside city-slick staples like striped shirts and leather jacket. And then the beachy jewellery by Danish brand Akva as well, of course.

Yet while there was a wealth of the brand’s usual sporty-meets-feminine fashion, this editor found herself lingering at the less iconised looks: a capri trouser with a quilted leather vest, a black trench with a draped scarf and the striped short-sleeved polo shirts styled with an airy cotton skirt.
