In a natural extension of the nine-to-five trend we’ve seen in recent seasons, Copenhagen is currently heralding the return of the tie
Reports of the death of the tie have been greatly exaggerated, if the streets of Copenhagen are anything to go by. The accessory has been everywhere so far this fashion week, on men and women alike – a trend that can be traced back to Saint Laurent’s spring/summer '25 show, where the likes of Bella Hadid took to the runway in power suits, buttoned-up shirts, and yes, an array of businesslike ties.
Fans of the look include Vogue Scandinavia’s print editor Allyson Shiffman, who paired her dad’s tie with a white shirt, a navy V-neck sweater, jeans and a bomber jacket on day one of Copenhagen Fashion Week. “I just think it looks cool. You feel good when you’re wearing one – powerful,” she says of her love of the accessory.
The return of the tie is a natural extension of the nine-to-five trend we’ve seen in recent seasons. “I think it’s a play on officecore, maybe in a bit of a cheeky way – everyone’s back in the office post-Covid, and maybe feeling the fatigue of having to work in a corporate environment,” Shiffman continues.

While some have been fully committing to the look in head-to-toe tailoring (see Hailey Bieber’s boss-bitch YSL look back in October), adding a leather trench or bomber jacket offers a fresh take. Plus, it can work for day or night – my friend Sophia Li, who was also sporting one of her dad’s ties in Copenhagen, likes to wear hers at night, too. “I love adding a white button-down shirt with a black tie, with an evening dress over the top,” she explains.
The best thing about this particular trend? You don’t need to buy anything new – as one of the men in your life is sure to have a tie in the back of their wardrobe that you can borrow. Below, see all the different ways the girls in Copenhagen have been styling their ties this season.
