From sleek looks by 8848 Altitude to a raucous after ski, Darja Barannik and her friends know how to have a killer ski vacation
There are few times of year as aesthetically pleasing as ski season. Extraordinary backdrops, sleek, minimal looks with retro appeal, the occasional action shot – this is an activity virtually designed for socials. Just ask Norwegian influencer Darja Barannik, who recently took a breather from her packed fashion month to hit the slopes in Hemsedal with some friends. Staying at the breathtaking Fyri Resort, Barannik and her crew enjoyed a weekend hitting the so-called ‘Scandinavian Alps’.
Like many Scandinavians, Barannik’s relationship with skiing began not long after she started walking. “My parents, and in particular, my dad, introduced me to skiing at a very young age,” she says. “I started when I was just two years old, and skiing has been a part of my life ever since. Reflecting on all those years, I truly credit my parents’ patience. They would take my sister and me to the slopes every day, from early morning until closing time. Their dedication and love for the sport laid the foundation for my lifelong passion for skiing.”

On this particular trip, Barannik’s looks came courtesy of Swedish ski brand 8848 Altitude, who hosted the trip. She and her guests wore minimal black and white ski suits, creating the visual impact of a girl gang of assassins coming down the slopes. “I’ve always been a fan of 8848 Altitude’s combination of style, functionality and quality,” she says. “Their designs are incredibly chic, offering a sophisticated yet practical look for the slopes. The gear is not only fashionable but also incredibly comfortable and warm, which is so important when you’re on the mountain for hours.”
But for Barannik, getting ready for a day on the mountain goes beyond having an excellent outfit. Prepping one’s skin for the wind and cold is vital, especially when a ski trip falls just before fashion week. “Sunscreen is a must – whether it’s sunny or cloudy, it’s crucial for protecting your skin at high altitudes,” she says. “I also always bring a good moisturiser to keep my skin hydrated in the cold weather, along with a nourishing lip balm or gloss. And since I’m wearing a helmet, a small hairbrush is a lifesaver to tame any helmet hair after a day on the slopes.”

No proper ski vacation is complete without the après-ski. Barannik and her friends enjoyed a drink-heavy lunch at Skigaarden (“It had such an amazing vibe,” she says) followed by a full-blown party, complete with more drinks and dancing. “We continued the fun at an après-ski party, where we really let loose – dancing on tables and taking shots with the whole group,” she says. “It was everything you expect from a good après-ski experience – laughter, music and plenty of energy to keep the vibe alive until late into the night.”
For Barannik, it was the company that made the trip so memorable. “This group of women is extraordinary because we each come from different walks of life, yet share such a strong bond of friendship,” she says. “What made this trip so special was how each of us contributed to creating a laid-back, energetic and supportive atmosphere. Everyone was positive and truly present, which made the entire experience feel so organic and memorable.”
