All you need to know about Desiré Inglander’s engagement ring
It’s official! Scandi couple of the moment, Desiré Inglander and Mondo Duplantis are engaged! Popping the question on set with Vogue Scandinavia, Duplantis proposed to his girlfriend of four years with an enviable ring – and we have all the details about the sparkling bijoux here.
Duplantis opted for a substantial oval-cut diamond with a thin gold band for the proposal, but his choice wasn’t simple. According to the Olympian, Inglander had been dropping hints over the years about what she might want in a ring. “She’s been flip-flopping,” said Duplantis, before buying the ring, debating whether Inglander would want a gold or white gold band. “I decided to use the context clues that I have. I know she wants to get more into gold, but she doesn’t have that much jewellery.”
Taking a leap of faith, working with a friend of a friend in Antwerp, Duplantis decided to get a custom ring made, but event the best-laid plans aren't always straightforward. In order to get a ring of the correct size, Duplantis resulted in swiping a ring from the influencer's jewellery box. Initially, he had attempted to slip a ring sizer onto her finger while sleeping but could not do so without waking Inglander up.
Duplantis left the ring in the care of his Swedish mother, Helena Duplantis, ensuring she brought it with her to The Hamptons when she came to surprise Inglander after the proposal. It was then stealthily passed onto Vogue Scandinavia*’s production team, out of view of the couple on set. She carried the piece throughout the day, ensuring it was given to Duplantis at the correct moment. The ring then made its final journey onto Inglander’s finger, before the box was happily flung onto the beach by Duplantis in a moment of passion as he celebrated with his now-fiancée.
