Flattered's Anna Johansson and Lena Meltzer – a duo who form the Swedish brand's creative backbone – talk us through the hands-on artistry and strength at the core of the SS25 collection
Those who have visited Flattered’s new Stockholm flagship have experienced a brand universe that seamlessly extends across its headquarters: serene, meticulously curated, and punctuated with art. Seated with creative director and bag designer Anna Johansson and shoe designer Lena Meltzer – Meltzer’s cloud-like white puppy sprawled at our feet – we take in the spring/summer ’25 collection, displayed on softly lit shelves like the artworks they are.
It comes as no surprise, then, that Johansson and Meltzer are artists in their own right. “We’re both very into art, ceramics, interiors, all of that,” says Johansson, who has spent decades in fashion while exploring illustration, painting, and sculpture. Meltzer, meanwhile, honed her artistic sensibilities through an arts education in her native Germany, specialising in fashion. “We’re both curious minds,” Meltzer chimes in.

There are nods to the artistry everywhere – shimmering brass details that pay homage to the brilliance of Romanian artist Constantin Brancusi’s gleaming sculptures, an interplay of materials influenced by the legacy of Irish designer Eileen Gray.
Rendered in bourbon-coloured suede, olive leather and black lacquer finishes, the SS25 collection has the kind of timelessness that Flattered does so well. But as the creative duo make clear, this season is also about celebrating the multifaceted nature of women – a fitting mission for a predominantly female-run brand. “It’s an ode to women who navigate life with artistry and grace, building their own kingdom,” says Johansson. “Every piece tells a story of empowerment.”

“We talk a lot about women,” says Meltzer, looking to Johansson. “We are both separated with kids, so we have a lot in common when it comes to our everyday lives. You feel exhausted but very strong and powerful, knowing you’re able to do so much.”
Flattered's artistry and intention spans further than the SS25 collection itself. In the flagship store, a sculptural wooden pillar hand-crafted by Johansson in the office mirrors the sculptural heel of the ‘Ali’ open-toe heel. It’s a testament to Flattered’s interconnected world, where every detail is personally considered. “That’s the fun part about this,” Johansson says. “We really do it with our hands.”
