“The folding chair has long been the subject of research and innovation; for example, I’m fascinated by the manufacturing simplicity found in some of the early post-war folding chairs,” Citterio says. With Flexform, he continues, “we decided to honour this history with a contemporary product… recapturing a combination of features that calls to mind this tradition.”

Inspired by a traditional folding chair’s functional, comfortable and compact qualities, Citterio has transformed the staple into a polished yet equally practical piece that places craftsmanship at the fore. The chair’s frame is made from solid and hand-turned wood – options including oak, walnut, ebony and teak with stained or raw-wood effect finishes – and is complete with metal screws and joints that allow quick and easy folding. Meanwhile, its durable and supple seat and backrest, harnessing cowhide, is available in a range of elegant hues, including dark brown, olive, tobacco and classic black.
