A man named Bob is the muse behind Gine Margrethe’s bold new beauty brand

Having spent the past 10 years sharing her well-considered insights as a beauty insider, beloved Norwegian content creator Gine Margrethe Qvale is flexing her makeup muscles launching her very own beauty brand. Her muse? A no-nonsense fictional dream boat named Bob

A fictional man named Bob might not be the first figure you’d expect to inspire a sleek new beauty line, but Norwegian influencer Gine Margrethe Qvale – one of the country’s biggest social media darlings – insists he’s exactly the man we all need. After spending the past decade serving up beauty tips to more than a million followers (and teasing “big news” on her Instagram for months) she’s finally unveiling her long-awaited brand: Bob Beauté.

“It feels like I’ve been pregnant for four years,” Gine Margrethe says with a laugh during our covert video call. She’s been teasing “big news” for months on her Instagram, and now the proverbial cat’s out of the bag, there’s an air of giddy relief in her voice. Bob Beauté, she explains, was created for people who “want to feel empowered in the beautiful chaos of life.” Gine Margrethe herself is a mother, and many of her followers are mothers and working professionals who crave fuss-free, multi-purpose products that can handle real-life scenarios – everything from board meetings to rainy drop-offs at nursery.

The brand’s name, Bob, reflects Gine Margrethe’s belief in simplicity. “Bob thinks like a man. It should be easy, it should be the best,” she says, summing up the matter-of-fact attitude she wants Bob Beauté to exude. But there’s something more playful behind her decision not to name the brand after herself. “I wanted a name that would allow the brand to stand on its own, to become something bigger than me,” she says, describing Bob as the perfect fictional dreamboat: confident, warm, and refreshingly direct. That, in many ways, underscores the difference between her new venture and many influencer-led launches. Bob Beauté aims higher, with timeless formulas and a classic aesthetic that won’t be chasing passing trends.

Gine Margrethe has been working on the line for four years, developing formulations in Italy, France, and Germany, and leaving no stone unturned in the quest for perfect textures, finishes, and staying power. She’s tested products on her husband, her mother – whoever happened to be nearby – and has even put them through the wringer under challenging travel conditions. “I went to Venice once with just two prototypes in my hand luggage, after my suitcase disappeared,” she says, eyes lighting up at the memory. “I used them for four days straight, through different weather, busy days, and late nights. It was the perfect test of multi-use efficiency, and I thought, this is exactly what Bob Beauté should be about.”

Her first product, due to launch in February, hints at the brand’s mission of delivering genuine “must-haves”. “I think it will be unexpected for many, but also kind of obvious,” she teases. “It’s the most multi-use product I have, and I reckon it’ll stay in your bag or toiletry case forever.” Gine Margrethe wants to release products slowly, giving each one time to shine and to be properly understood – why it exists, how it works, who it’s for. She’s adamant that today’s rapid-fire product drop culture doesn’t allow busy consumers to really bond with what they’re buying, and she aims to change that with Bob. “We live in a fast-paced world, so I want to give everyone a moment to truly discover and enjoy each product,” she says.

Above all, Gine Margrethe wants Bob Beauté to feel like a reliable companion, not another flashy novelty. While she’s clearly enthralled by the creative aspects – whipping up dream formulas in Europe’s top factories, road-testing them in tricky real-life situations – she maintains a refreshingly down-to-earth perspective. “In the end, I’m doing this to help people feel confident and prepared,” she explains. “Whether you’re rushing out the door for school drop-off or heading to an important meeting, you can rely on Bob to have your back.”

And so, with tongue planted firmly in-cheek, the man called Bob is set to make his grand entrance into the world of beauty. While his name may raise an eyebrow, Gine Margrethe’s unwavering conviction and years of behind-the-scenes work suggest he’s poised to leave a serious mark. It’s safe to say the wait is over – Gine Margrethe’s baby is finally here.
