Italian-born, Stockholm-based creative powerhouse Giovanna Engelbert's innate flair for colour, tailoring and accessorising was originally brought to the world's attention via the lens of street style photographers in the world's fashion capitals. As she's celebrated as the cover star of the latest issue of Vogue Scandinavia, we take a look back at some of her best looks over the years
As told to Vogue Scandinavia in her cover story for the October-November issue, a turning point in the illustrious fashion career of Giovanna Engelbert occurred years ago when she was standing on 14th Street during New York Fashion Week and an unassuming man asked to take her picture. “I can tell you what I was wearing,” she says. “I was wearing an Alessandro Dell’Acqua dress that was a bit ladylike with a Ricky Ralph Lauren bag, that was kindly gifted because I didn’t have money to buy a red crocodile bag.” The man was Scott Schuman, who was just starting the street style blog The Sartorialist.
Engelbert quickly became a street style muse, standing out from the commonly black-clad crowd with her eclectic and maximalist style. “I always dressed up for the shows,” she says, simply. “It was fun.”
Here, we take a look back through Engelberg's colourful archives to revisit 50 of her best street style looks.
