The 26-year-old Swedish striker has received the nation's most prestigious football gong
The stakes were high with three talented favourites – Alexander Isak, Dejan Kulusevski and Viktor Gyökeres – up for this year's Guldbollen gong. But after an impossibly successful year behind him, it's Gyökeres who has taken it home.
The annual prize acknowledges Sweden's best male football player, and with Gyökeres scoring no less than 61 goals across 60 games in the last year, it's well deserved. "It feels both incredibly good and a little surreal", Gyökeres – who has also been named Forward of the Year – was quoted as saying after the announcement.
Congratulations are in order for Gyökeres, though he has quite a way to go to make it to Zlatan Ibrahimovic 's record count 12 Guldbollen prizes.
