Danish supermodel Helena Christensen links up with Australian denim brand Rolla’s Jeans on a series of intimate portraits

Like most Danes, Helena Christensen knows her way around a pair of jeans. But despite having access to the most significant designers on the planet, Christensen was relatively late to the denim game. “I only started wearing denim in my early 30s when I suddenly discovered vintage jeans,” she says. “Before that, it was all about vintage dresses. It was fun to start wearing jeans and mixing them with vintage pieces. I love how they’re both practical and stylish at the same time.”

Now Christensen is taking her love of denim to new heights, partnering with Australian denim brand Rolla’s on a campaign that reflects her own personal style. Linking up with best friend and frequent creative collaborator, Camilla Staerk to style the shoot (the duo included pieces from their own brand, STÆRK&CHRISTENSEN), Christensen – a photographer herself – worked with the photographer to imbue the images with her singular effortlessness. She describes the candid portraits as “poetic and playful”.

In the images, Christensen wears Rolla’s Gigi Barrel jeans in three washes (black and two shades of blue). “I’m particularly into long straight legs and the oversized slouchy look,” says Christensen, noting that the jeans also have a “perfectly high-waisted fit”.

It was a great vibe on set the day of the shoot, especially given that Staerk was involved. “We had such a great day so many of us knew each other, and the Rolla’s team was so fun,” says Christensen. “It felt more like just hanging out with a bunch of friends, playing around with a camera and capturing candid snaps.”

As for why Danes, in particular, have such a great relationship with denim? Christensen has a thought. “Jeans are practical, comfortable, cool and warm,” she says. “Just like the Danes.”
