Yesterday evening Caviar Kaspia, a beloved Paris Fashion Week haunt, got a topsy turvy makeover by way of Holzweiler and Norwegian artist Bjarne Melgaard. Working with Holzweiler deadstock material, Melgaard created three fantastical figurative sculptures that embody the spirit of the caviar-forward restaurant; Mr and Mrs caviar and their dog. “I saw a ‘family’ image connected to such a legendary space, but also as something that would be a total opposite of what would usually be a ‘Kaspia client’,” says Melgaard, noting that the project was very “improvised and imaginative”. “I also loved the idea of a ‘take over’ at such a legendary place as Kaspia.”

For Holzweiler, working with Melgaard was a bit of a bucket list item. “Ever since we started Holzweiler Bjarne has been on our dream list of collabs, so when he reached out to us in December last year it was a real ‘pinch-me' moment,” says brand co-founder Susanne Holzweiler. “It’s been so amazing working with him because he is so creative and it's so fascinating to see his capacity of creating art, and at the same time, even being at the level he is, he remains so humble and open.” To complete the collaboration, Holzweiler, Melgaard and Caviar Kaspia have released a capsule collection of wool scarves, down jackets and jersey pieces starring Melgaard’s fictional characters.

Teaming up with Caviar Kaspia, meanwhile, was a no-brainer; the Holzweiler family has been friends with owner Ramon Mac-Crohon and his wife Anoushka Gresvig Mac-Crohon for over 14 years. “We have had so many amazing, fun nights full of goosebumps and laughter at Kaspia,” says Susanne. “When we started Holzweiler, they were so supportive from day one.” During Paris Fashion Week, a box of Holzweiler scarves was kept behind the bar to be handed out fashionable guests.

For yesterday’s launch dinner, the brand welcomed a slew of fashionable friends to take in Melgaard’s sculptures and, of course, indulge in plenty of caviar. Is Melgaard a caviar guy himself? “Yes,” he says. “I love caviar.”
