We never knew how much we craved a colourful coat until we saw Elsa Hosk sporting a pea green iteration on Instagram, with a matching Bottega Veneta bag – naturally. In fact, it was arguably creative director Daniel Lee who, during his three-tear tenure at the Italian brand, first favoured the shade, with the term ‘Bottega Green’ being coined.
Many heritage brands have cemented their shade of choice early on in their history — think Tiffany blue, Hermès orange and Christian Louboutin red — and 'Bottega Green' was quick to join the ranks when introduced in the brand’s spring/summer 2021 collection. As a result, the ineffably chic colour way spread like wildfire, with the bright green most recently taking over our outerwear.
Alas, the affection for the poppy pea green shade is irrefutable when it made its way onto the likes of Elsa Hosk. But the Swedish supermodel was just one among the many sartorial savants in the Scandi style set to wear the trend for 2022. The streets of Copenhagen were overrun with faux furs jackets and floor skimming coats in the recognisable colour during the latest fashion week.
Focusing on colour rather than style means that the trend is easy enough to adopt into our wardrobes. Whether the preference leans towards lighter layers – in branded racing jackets or water proof pleather – or winter warmers in voluminous silhouettes, there is a version of these coveted coats and jackets for everyone.
