In a touching tribute to the late David Lynch, half-Swedish actor Isabella Rossellini wore a blue velvet gown by Dolce & Gabbana to the 2025 Oscars red carpet

The film community was shook by the passing of David Lynch earlier this year, so it was only fitting that one of his greatest muses, Isabella Rossellini, would pay tribute to the iconic director on Hollywood’s biggest night. At the 2025 Oscars yesterday evening, Rossellini, who had her breakout in Lynch’s 1987 neo-noir masterpiece Blue Velvet, wore a blue velvet Dolce & Gabbana gown. To make the tribute ever more touching, she walked the red carpet with Blue Velvet co-star and fellow Lynch muse Laura Dern.

Rossellini’s look also paid tribute to her mother, Swedish actor Ingrid Bergman; her diamond drop earrings were worn by Bergman to the Oscars in 1979 when she was nominated for Murder on the Orient Express (she ultimately won – it was her third and final Oscar). Rossellini was also nominated last night for her role in Conclave, but she ultimately lost out to Zoe Saldana.

Rossellini summed up her feelings towards Lynch in an Instagram post made shortly after the news of his passing broke. “I loved him so much,” she wrote beneath a sweet picture of herself and Lynch. This striking fashion moment – the regal blue velvet gown – was yet another fitting way to honour his memory.
