Zalando Sustainability Award finalist Iso.Poetism autumn/winter 2022 collection was an ode to the grief felt when loosing a loved one
For Tobias Birk Nielsen, design is a paradigm of bricolage; using what we have available already, and create impeccable quality garments with the lowest impact possible. As one of this season's finalists in the Zalando Sustainability Award, Iso.Poetism's show took place in the transformed Nikolaj Kunsthall.
Every season the brand looks to emotions for inspiration. For the autumn/winter 2022 collection Birk Nielsen dealt with the very personal emotions of grief and mortality in the face of losing the person closest to him: his wife. This latest collection, named 'The Echoes which we Remain' is intended as a tribute to the circle of life and all the vast beautiful aspects within. Being an “echo” means to keep passing on the values of the departed one, and to keep practising what the relationship was build upon, in order to keep the relation relevant, to honour it – and to grow richer out of the loss.
Set against screens with billowing smoke and a runway dressed with rocks to reflect the setting of an erupting volcano, the models walked in looks that were quintessentially Iso. Poetism. Working with muted colours like grey, khaki, black, and white the garments were comforting and oversized in its proportions gear puffer vests and trousers in technical fabrics.
