The knee-high boot keeps icy winds at bay come autumn, but can also bring some Mary Quant appeal to our late summer wardrobes
In anticipation of August and the imminent fashion weeks to come (bringing with them a revelry of street style inspiration), it is time to overturn our wardrobes to welcome more transitional pieces into its fold. For the 'glass half-full' crowd, the coming months are known as late summer, whereas the nay-sayers see it as early autumn: we refer to it as the Mary Quant season when fashion takes a turn for cropped skirts and knee-high boots.
Since she first introduced the mini skirt in the 1960s, Quant's influence has transcended generations leaving an indelible mark on the fashion industry. Pairing a liberating hemline with knee-high boots was only natural – blending summer spirit and autumn allure.
This season, the click-clack heels of knee-high boots took centre stage at Louis Vuitton, where Swedish A-lister Alicia Vikander sported her cognac versions with florals and a cropped white skirt. Elsewhere, Norwegian supermodel Frida Aasen was spotted in green snakeskin boots and a two-piece leather set, including booty shorts and a bohemian shirt.
So as the sun sets on another summer, peruse our favourite Mary Quant-inspired combinations and get inspired by the many ways to wear knee-high boots during the coming months – extending the life span of our short shorts and mini skirts for another couple of months.
