Half-Swedish celebrity makeup artist Ash K Holm, known for her work with the Kardashians, believes in a kinder, more mindful path to glowing skin. Here, she explains how small, daily shifts make beauty resolutions you can actually keep
In the swirl of a new year, it’s easy to compile lists of lofty resolutions and splashy wellness goals. But half-Swedish celebrity makeup artist Ash K Holm, a favourite among the Kardashian clan, takes a gentler view. Rather than chasing quick fixes or hyper-detailed regimens, she suggests a holistic reset. “A holistic mindset in beauty means focusing on the connection between your physical, mental, and emotional well-being,” she says. “It is about nurturing yourself from the inside out, prioritising skincare, self-care, and practices that align with a balanced lifestyle, rather than just chasing trends or quick fixes.
Her philosophy translates seamlessly into everyday action. First, she advises decluttering your beauty cupboard, tossing expired items and unnecessary products that only serve to confuse your routine. Second, create a small ritual that fosters a deeper connection with your skin, whether it’s a daily facial massage or simply pausing to inhale deeply between each step of your routine. Finally, she emphasises the power of hydration from the inside and out. “Drink more water and use a hydrating mist,” she says. “It sounds simple, but consistency is key.”
Holm also recommends adapting to the season’s demands by reaching for formulas that protect and nourish when temperatures drop. “Look for products with hyaluronic acid for hydration, ceramides for barrier repair, and vitamin C to protect against environmental stressors,” she explains. She adds that a gentle exfoliant, like lactic acid, keeps skin glowing without stripping it. Yet she’s quick to point out that no topical treatment can compensate for neglecting the fundamentals: “Diet, sleep, and exercise are foundational for skin health. They regulate hormones, improve circulation, and boost collagen production. When one is off, prioritise hydration and apply a brightening eye cream or cooling jade roller to counteract signs of fatigue.”
