Congratulations are in order for honorary Danes Lily Collins and her husband Charlie McDowell, who have welcomed their first child – opting for a particular Scandinavian name
Congratulations are in order for Emily in Paris star and former Vogue Scandinavia cover star Lily Collins and her husband, director and screenwriter Charlie McDowell, who welcomed their first child – a girl named Tove Jane – via surrogate this week. “Welcome to the centre of our world Tove Jane McDowell. Words will never express our endless gratitude for our incredible surrogate and everyone who helped us along the way. We love you to the moon and back again,” Collins wrote on Instagram, sharing a simply adorable photo of baby Tove in a flowered bonnet.
Collins and McDowell, who were already pet parents to a dog named Redford, didn't make the news that they were expecting a baby public before Tove's birth, but Collins has long been open about wanting to start a family. “My reason to finally start talking about [my eating disorder] was the moment I realised I wanted a family. I wanted kids. I didn’t want this to be something I bring into that,” Collins told* Us Weekly* in 2017.
Collins first met McDowell – who is the son of actress Mary Steenburgen and stepson of her husband Ted Danson – on the set of the 2019 film Gilded Rage, which he directed and in which she appeared. The two married at Colorado’s Dunton Hot Springs in 2021, a happy occasion for which the bride donned a long-sleeved, hooded lace Ralph Lauren gown. Hopefully, baby Tove will grow up to love fashion, because her mother’s closet full of Euro-chic pieces will only become cooler once they’re vintage.
