Livid wanted its latest collection to call-to-mind "the eerie, the weary and hope"
In the post-war modernist building designed by Eero Saarinen, which once housed the American embassy, Livid’s guests were invited to gather around a sunken pool carved into the stone floor that slowly filled with milk. This runway show marks the brand’s first since February 2022, having previously opted for static presentations in Copenhagen. Set in an atrium only recently opened to the public, the heavy doors banged open and shut, echoing through the space as models made their way around the three-storey runway. An act to "challenge and disturb the rhythm of the architectural framing,” according to the brand.
Founder and creative director Jens Olav Dankertsen, alongside Design Director Charlie Selvig, explains how they continually build a library of materials and a vocabulary of references when creating the Livid's collection. Each new season typically begins with an exploration of these resources, coupled with a debrief on the successes and challenges of previous collections. “Each season, we approach a new collection with a mindset that challenges our existing concepts and further engages with them,” the duo explains. “As a value-driven brand, we examine our perspectives. We refine the old, discover something new, and follow new ideas down the rabbit hole.”
Dankertsen and Selvig describe their process as formalistic, focusing on the quality of materials, shape, and composition when creating each collection. “This season, we wanted to explore shades of white through layers and textures, creating ensembles that blend elegance with imperfection,” they say, noting that the collection embodies a sense of “the eerie, the weary, and hope.” The resulting looks consisted of Japanese paper yarn knits, tie-front leather vests, doubled-up waist bands and layered dresses.
But which pieces should we pay special attention to on the runway? “Our Keri Bisect jean – it’s a spin-off of the brand’s most popular fit,” they say. “And Beth—our new low-rise wide fit, both of which are sure to make an impact.”
