While some of the autumn/winter 2022 shows provided us with fresh, innovative takes where houses such as Christian Dior and Balmain explored fashion through a futuristic lens, a host of others (Miu Miu, Blumarine, Diesel…) relied on the still-thriving, gaudy Y2K aesthetic. However, it is universally agreed upon – at least at the Vogue Scandinavia office – that the unequivocal, humble hero of the AW22 catwalks was the, oh so basic, white tank top.
Closing the Prada show, opening for Bottega Veneta, also flaunted on the runways of Acne Studios, Sacai and Chloé, the white tank top reminded us of its’ chameleon-like quality to go with just about anything. The “back to basics” – mantra seemed to have echoed onto the recent 2022 Oscars' red carpet, too, as we saw another wardrobe essential, the crisp white shirt, take centre stage among the star-studded attendees.
Cementing its status as the staple piece du jour, the white tank top has naturally caught the interest of our Scandinavian online tastemakers. Scrolling through social media, we can’t help but notice one number, in particular, populating our feeds: The Loewe’s ribbed, logo-adorned tank.
First appearing on Loewe’s spring/summer 2022 runway and quickly making its way to the wardrobes of Nordic influencers such as Swedish stylist Hanna MW and Copenhagen-based The Garment founder and creative director Sophia Roe, Loewe’s iteration of the early aughts piece is the one to invest in now. Make like the style set and pair with an oversized leather jacket while you wait for the temperatures to rise. Get it while you can.
