“We met through my girlfriend,” said Stafsing. “My ex-girlfriend,” replies Lernberger, “and we started having a conversation that hasn’t ended 26 years later.”
When you say Lernberger Stafsing, any Scandi – whether they have an interest in beauty or not – knows who they are. In its ten years, the brand has positioned itself as the reference for affordable luxury, offering high-quality haircare, styling, beauty and now even skincare. But where did it all start?
Before the brand’s conception, Patrik Lernberger was (and still is) a celebrity hairstylist and Mattias Stafsing was (and still is) a celebrity makeup artist. Based in Gothenburg, but with impact all over Scandinavia and the world, each was known for their craft but didn’t personally know each other. Well, Stafsing knew of Lernberger as “the biggest player of Gothenburg”, but Lernberger didn’t know Stafsing – not yet at least. As the story continues, they eventually meet, through a former lover no less, and as Lernberger says, “we started a conversation that hasn’t ended 26 years later”. Today, Lernberger Stafsing is a brand, a couple, a family and an ethos.
“Lernberger Stafsing started as a dream. We had been working for other people and other companies for many years and we decided that we finally wanted to make something for ourselves,” says Lernberger. Naturally, as hair and makeup professionals, bringing their own skills and expectations to their own products was an inevitable outcome. “As hairdressers, we know the most important thing is to have healthy hair. With healthy hair you can do whatever you want, so we made that our philosophy and started working from there.” This prompted the creation of a line of products that successfully innovated not only styling but also hair care.
“We researched and couldn’t find a lot of products that we believed should exist, like our BB cream, so we decided to create them,” says Stafsing. “We also wanted to include molecules that are known to be good for the skin into haircare, yet couldn’t find them either.” This prompted the introduction of Hyaluronic Acid in their formulas, something revolutionary at the time.
Today, Lernberger Stafsing has a complete and comprehensive line of hair care, styling and even skincare products (one of their best sellers being the Multi Correcting Cream, a concoction with Azelaic Acid that works wonders to the skin, tried and tested here), but what can we now expect from the brand?
We’re on the eve of a full rebrand for the brand,” says Stafsing. But that’s all we can tell you for now,” laughs Lernberger. And there you have it, a story of love, dreams, high expectations and lots of hair, with an exciting unwritten chapter ahead.
