With cool colourways and stylish accents, the Swedish brand’s new collection draws inspiration from Copenhagen, seamlessly bridging the gap between sleepwear and everyday attire
From Kirsten Dunst’s gauzy chemise in Marie Antoinette to Audrey Hepburn’s makeshift nightshirt in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, it’s clear that pyjamas are just as much a fashion statement as any suit or gown. Luckily, we no longer have to settle for the ruffled creations of the 1780s, and sleepwear today is as stylish as ever. Doubtful? Just look to Magniberg, the Stockholm-based brand that serves up bedding and sleepwear with characteristic Scandi minimalism and an eye for colour.
The brand’s newest collection,Copenhagen Dreaming, melds contemporary comfort with stylish silhouettes. Complete with buttoned sets, semi-sheer slips, and lacy trousers, the pieces are versatile, ready to be worn to bed, around the house, or around town. “We draw on a lot of references from childhood, work, life, art, street culture. We approached making pyjamas with the mindset of appraising every single thing. The fabric, the tailoring, the details,” says Bengt Thornefors, co-founder of Magniberg. Precisely cut for the perfect slouchy fit on trouser sets or romantic draping for slip dresses, these designs have their place in any wardrobe - regardless of gender.
From sky blue and crisp white to chocolate brown and burnt sienna, the colourways of the collection are literally easy on the eyes, their soothing tones bringing a sense of calm. Shot on the streets of Copenhagen, which served as inspiration for the collection, the pieces’ fresh energy translates into an adaptable readiness. As Thornefors puts it, “Wear Magniberg and make some nice new friends. You will look smart, sensual, intellectual, romantic. You can join a band or do some gardening. Sex and romance. Or just plain attitude.”
