Botanic inspired prints and A-line silhouettes - The Spring/summer collection felt quintessentially Marimekko
In a digital presentation set to solemn piano, Marimekko’s new creative director Rebekka Bay showed her first ever Spring/Summer collection for the brand. In a large warehouse space, models were wearing the signature loose silhouettes emblazoned with nature-inspired prints in muted colours of orange, green, blue and pink. The maximalist florals were juxtaposed by the strictness of a stripe, another key element in the Finnish heritage brand’s design.
Titled ‘New Folk’, the collection was strict in its form, with an almost exclusive A-line shape. Drawing on the vast archives, Bay opted for an emphasis on graphics that suited the brand’s well established DNA. Although the brand has entered a new era under new leadership, it’s still 100 per cent Marimekko.
