OpéraSport kicked off Copenhagen Fashion Week with royal aplomb, with the Danish brand’s autumn/winter ‘25 collection embracing regal influences imbued with Art Deco elegance
Last year, Denmark started a new chapter as King Frederik and Queen Mary ascended to the throne in January, marking a monumental moment for the nation and beyond. It also fuelled the autumn/winter ‘25 collection of OpéraSport, whose headquarters and store just happens to be a stone’s throw away from the Amalienborg Palace, the home of the Danish royal family.
“This historic and regal setting has always been a source of inspiration for us, and with Denmark welcoming a new king last year, it felt like the perfect time to translate this influence into a collection,” explains Awa Malina Stelter, co-founder of the brand.
Entitled ‘A Celebration of Art Deco Elegance and Regal Sophistication’, for AW25, Stelter and Stephanie Gundelach – the other half of OpéraSport – drew upon opulent royal aesthetics, fusing them with refined Art Deco influences. “For us, the AW25 collection is about bringing our inspirations to life in a way that feels both authentic and meaningful,” continues Stelter. “It’s important to us that everything we create is not only beautiful but also wearable and something the consumer can truly relate to.”
With a vision encompassing two robust concepts, there’s a risk of creating clothing that either feels overly busy or veers into costume-y territory. Yet, OpéraSport’s latest offering serves up a mix of contemporary, versatile garments exuding understated elegance, jazzed up with subtle regal nods – think flouncy balloon sleeves, dainty lace and plush faux fur – and Art Deco touches, materialising in clean lines and silky fabrics. Fittingly backdropped by the stunning, 400-year-old vaulted brewhouse of King Christian IV, sprinkled with imposing sculptures, a sense of grandeur prevailed as models glided to a dreamy soundscape.
Standout moments of the line-up include the slouchy yet polished tailoring, sheer shirting embellished with floral embroidery, and eye-catchers such as a slinky draped halter-neck top and sharp quilted leather jacket-and-skirt combo, adorned with a romantic rose print. True to the brand’s commitment to sustainability, each garment has been crafted from recycled or organic materials. As for the crown jewel of the collection? OpéraSport’s collaboration with Puma featuring slender Speedcat ballet flats – sure to find a spot in numerous shoedrobes come autumn.
“The AW25 collection is a testament to the idea that fashion can be both luxurious and responsible,” the founders reflect. “We aim to convey that opulence can coexist with functionality and inclusivity, creating garments that transcend trends and celebrate individuality.”
