The 2025 Oscars are currently shrouded in questions, but one thing is clear – Danish film The Girl With The Needle is officially in the running for the Best International Film gong
After being delayed twice, as a result of the ongoing wildfires in LA, the 2025 Oscar nominations finally arrived on 23 January, bringing both expected frontrunners and notable omissions, as announced by Bowen Yang and Rachel Sennott.
What happens now, though, is anybody’s guess. Will the Oscars ceremony still definitely go ahead? Providing it does, will voters rally behind feel-good releases as opposed to darker fare, given the bleak current climate? Or will Academy members look to films like Emilia Pérez and Wicked to send a defiant anti-Trump message, following his recent inauguration? And will the controversy swirling around The Brutalist, in regards to its use of AI – a story which only began gaining traction after nominations voting had closed – have any bearing on the final result?
While we wait for answers, see the 2025 Oscar nominations in full, below.
