Pinstripes may traditionally be considered an autumnal print, but now street stylers are bringing this cold weather classic into summer
Few prints are as perennial as a pinstripe, a point quickly proven when comparing the current street style trends with those of yesteryear. Just consider how effortlessly Marlene Dietrich’s subversive suiting would fit into the fashion crowds of Paris and Milan this past season – especially the set sporting striped tailoring.
Be it a more traditional, androgynous guise – as seen on Anna Dello Russo, topped with a traditional black tie – or deconstructed for a more modern appearance, pinstripes were practically everywhere.
We can thank the usual culprits for the print’s somewhat surprising emergence in our daily wardrobe rotation this summer: Alessandro Michele’s last collection for Gucci presented cream coloured sets with bleached stripes, while Boss, in contrast, opted for a stark black on white weave. Coperni, on the other hand, went for the timeless white on black we’ve all come to love – especially in the form of a waistcoat.
