At last week's Arts and Culture Ball, Queen Mary of Denmark donned a familiar, shimmering Jenny Packham gown – a favourite of another royal. Below, everything you need to know about Queen Mary’s look and where we've seen the dress before
Last Friday’s prestigious Arts and Culture Ball, organised by King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark at Christiansborg Palace, was a glamorous celebration of the nation’s artistic brilliance. Esteemed attendees – spanning fashion, film, music and more – dressed accordingly, while the hosts of the evening also put their best sartorial foot forward.
Swathed in sequins and crystals, Queen Mary dazzled at the event in a blush, floor-grazing, form-hugging Jenny Packham gown featuring long sleeves and structured shoulders. Bolstering the sparkle, the royal opted for full gala jewellery, donning her vintage, bejewelled Edwardian tiara and matching diamond drop earrings – a set she frequently relies on for formal occasions.

Think you’ve seen Queen Mary’s glittering frock before? You’re right – not only has she worn it on a previous occasion (remember her official 50th birthday portraits in 2022?), but the gown is also a firm favourite of another fashion-forward royal: Princess Catherine of Wales. The British royal has donned it multiple times, most recently at the Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace in December 2023. Her wardrobe also houses a striking emerald green iteration of the gown.
Yet, this Jenny Packham twinning moment between Queen Mary and Princess Catherine is hardly the first – or the last. Seemingly boasting the same refined taste, the two have been spotted gravitating towards the same look at least 15 times in the past – whether in 1950s-inspired Beulah dresses, sleek Emilia Wickstead frocks or sharply tailored Alexander McQueen suits.
