For autumn/winter 2025, Rave Review presents an upcycled, cool-girl take on heritage horse girl aesthetics
Are you ready for horse girl fall? Rave Review is. For autumn/winter 2025 the Swedish brand cast its gaze to the countryside, where posh, tartan-heavy women saddle up and gallop off. But Rave Review’s penchant for all things equestrian runs deeper than a passing interest in giddy-up aesthetics; co-founder Josephine Bergqvist is a lifelong horse girl. In fact, the lookbook images were shot at Foderby Gård in Vallentuna, where she has been riding since she was a child.
Bergqvist was brought up in the “horse world”; her mother is a riding instructor and lifelong horse enthusiast (last year she was deemed the best riding teacher of the year by the Swedish Equestrian Federation). “I kind of grew up in the stable since my mum was always there,” says Bergqvist. “I was pretty serious in the beginning, dreaming of a professional career.” For years she spent her weekends competing in show jumping, cross country and dressage.

Inspired by old-world riding looks – the sort of outfits one would find on a sprawling Cotswolds estate – Rave Review leans into its penchant for plaid, reconstructing kilts, slim riding pants and clingy polo shirts for a modern take on heritage horse girl aesthetics. The season finds its muse in the late “Queen Lizzie”, who is most directly referenced by way of babushka scarves and mud-splattered rubber boots. “When we started to design process I was obsessed with her, looking at images from the ’70s and ’80s when she was riding her horse dressed in a waxed coat, wellies and a scarf wrapped around her head,” says Bergqvist. Naturally, Rave Review’s padded scarves are made from vintage duvets.
Here, the brand doubles down on the asymmetric cuts that have defined recent collections. Frocks printed with sweet polka dots and delicate florals coil and float around the body, whilst off-centre collars on striped long-sleeved shirts read more cool-girl than a country club. Elsewhere, contrasts in texture by way of double-layered blanket skirts, which feature heavy wool met with delicate lace. Yes, there are signature blanket coats (most notably in demure colourways and cinched at the waist), but the standout outerwear is the sturdy leather coat, which features a blanket lining. “That’s a garment I personally need in my wardrobe,” notes Bergqvist.

This is Rave Review's approach to heritage dressing. And speaking of heritage, Bergqvist’s own mother appears in the lookbook alongside her horse, Everyoneshope. “What is inspiring with my mum is her passion for what she is doing,” notes Bergqvist, adding that she’s very proud of her mum and all she’s accomplished in the horse world. “To educate and to teach riding in a way that is in harmony for both the horse and rider is her mission in life.” Mum was immediately game when Bergqvist invited her to be in the lookbook. “I didn’t have to convince her to do to do this at all, she thought it was fun,” says Bergqvist. “Or at least she was super excited to have her horse in the pictures.”
