It is well know that Scandi girls do it best - or at least we think so – and this sentiment extends to their haircuts. Here, Vogue Scandinavia rounds up five chops favourited by our home-grown girls to inspire your next trip to the salon

Scandinavians are always one step ahead of everyone else when it comes to their style – and it’s no different in the hair department. Whether it’s colour, cut, style or accessories, the coolest Nordic women are always setting trends, so here’s a look at five of their favourites right now.

1

The butterfly cut

Inspired by the wings of a butterfly, this face-framing cut is full of layering that mirrors the shape of a butterfly’s wings. It’s ideal for maximising volume and creating shape.

2

The mullet

When it comes to taking risks, the It girls of northern Europe are fearless. The mullet cut is a daring style they’ve jumped on without any hesitation. Modern and androgynous, it isn’t for everyone but for those that do dare try it, it’s adventurous and seriously cool.

3

Mermaid hair

Stylish Nordic women know how to keep their hair shiny and healthy – just see Emili Sindlev and Hanna Schönberg for proof. Both of them have made their long, curly hair their signature. In fact, their hair, with its tight, extra-long waves, is giving “mermaid”.

4

The messy bob

Yes, the bob has been big all over the world, but the Scandinavians know exactly how to mess it up to great effect. With loose waves in the front and a tousled effect throughout, this voluminous style is nonchalant and cool.

5

Long bangs

Fringes come into their own at this time of the year, and they’re huge in Scandinavia right now. Often used to complement long hair, our Nordic counterparts are opting for Jane Birkin-style bangs, which have movement and structure, while framing the face. Jeanette Madsen, founder of Copenhagen-based fashion brand, Rotate, has made the fringe her signature look.
