After the pandemic, working from wherever takes our fancy has suddenly become the norm. You might feel the urge to change up your scenery a little or switch the kitchen table to a cafe table occasionally. Or perhaps you even have to squeeze in some work on your visit to Oslo?
In any case, a go-to cafe office is a marvellous option. And these seven spots do great drinks and tasty food, plus there's wifi and most importantly, they welcome you, your deadlines, and laptop for an hour – or perhaps five.

For vintage 1970s furniture, upscale coffee, sweet and savoury pastries and refreshing beverages, Fuglen is a go-to. The Gamlebyen and the Universitetsgata locations allow you to sink into a soft leather sofa and tap away whilst sipping flavoursome coffee from the world's foremost coffee growers based in Tokyo. From Thursday to Sunday, the roastery transforms into a cocktail bar with live music and events after 6 pm.

Dapper Bar Grünerløkka
This multibrand store, Dapper, mixes good taste and great coffee and if you have enough self-discipline to stop yourself from shopping inbetween meetings, then this cafe is a great option. The space is fairly quiet in the early hours on weekdays, which is the best time to really get down to work. Later on in the afternoons and evenings when it turns into an amiable wine bar. Oh, and try their super tasty skillingsbolle (cinnamon bun) from Oslo bakery Skillings.

At Tøyen Torg east in Oslo, Tøyen & Bar fuses cafe, bar and workspace community. The space offers a relaxed atmosphere with calm music, numerous seats and tables suitable for working alone or in a group. The industrial interiors combined with vintage furniture and plywood decked walls give a Scandinavian, warm ambience. If you feel peckish, a small selection of sandwiches and pastries can feed your needs. Stockfleths is a coffeehouse in Oslo with numerous locations across town. Whilst all serve delicious coffee and cold drinks, the Gamlebyen location is particularly well suited for replying to emails and meeting deadlines. The atmosphere is comfy, and the dark wooden walls make for a tranquil environment that entitles a good workflow. Stockfleths also serve a selection of pastries, sandwiches and salads for lunch.

Kafe Oslo at Litteraturhuset (The House of Litterature), next to the royal gardens, is the perfect place for people watching and literary inspiration. Install yourself and your laptop comfortably on a sofa, or at a table in the cafe by the bookshelves. After finishing the laptop stuff, enjoy a light lunch or a glass of white wine in the sunshine on the stairs or seats outside. Also, Litteraturhuset houses an eminent little bookshop and regularly hosts debates and visits from international authors.

The Norwegian National Library on Solli Plass is open to the public, with dedicated reading rooms, book-lined walls and a cute cafe. The interior makes aesthetic repose for laptop-tired eyes, featuring bowed arches, painted ceilings and dark wood panels. The Kafé Å on the second floor is very hygge and serves small plates and beverages that you can also bring to other areas of the library.

Spacious, light and workflow-friendly, the Pust coffee shop in Majorstua is excellent for meeting up with a group and sitting around one of the long tables. Or get into focus solo on a stool by the window. Stop by for a tasty, freshly brewed coffee, and come early for the best seats as Pust is a hot-spot amongst cafe office workers.
