Nordic design claimed its spot in Ryan Gosling's much-talked-about performance of 'I'm Just Ken' at the 2024 Oscars, as Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash emerged donning a full custom look by Swedish brand Martin Key
Many would argue that Ryan Gosling’s performance of ‘I’m Just Ken’ from the blockbuster film Barbie was one of the absolute highlights of the 2024 Oscars ceremony. Gosling’s spectacle was made even more special by the unexpected appearance of rock legend Slash, who emerged onto the stage halfway through the performance, sending the audience into a wild frenzy – wild enough to break Emma Stone’s custom Louis Vuitton gown.
Better yet, the Guns N’ Roses guitarist’s attire was a full custom look by Swedish designer Martin Key. A very Slash-coded ensemble, the artist donned a jet black, slouchy suit crafted from Italian lambskin leather with salmon skin details and the brand’s signature zipper adorning the chest pocket. Adding even more edge to the get-up, the outfit was completed with black cowboy boots and a matching top hat, which the guitarist always wears on stage.

While Martin Key might be a relatively under-the-radar label for some, the brand’s history stretches back to almost 100 years. A pioneer in Swedish leather craftsmanship, Martin Key is known for its meticulously made leather jackets, which the likes of Alexander Skarsgård, Alesso and Christiano Ronaldo have worn. In a pop culture-immortalised moment like Slash performing at the Oscars, for an indie fashion brand to get their pieces on an icon like the Guns N’ Roses guitarist is undoubtedly an outstanding achievement.
