Belts have come a long way from simply holding your trousers in place. This season, they’ve become statement pieces in their own right — often worn in multiples to dramatic effect. Miu Miu set a bold precedent for spring/summer 2025 by layering chain belts, some encrusted with crystals, over everything from patent leather skirts to swimwear and hot pants. The effect was striking: a playful mix of gold and silver chains paired with muted or brightly coloured leather belts, creating a welcome contrast against each outfit.
Schiaparelli’s creative director, Daniel Roseberry, followed suit by defining the waist with both a wide black belt and a gold chain, lending an ’80s power-shoulder silhouette an extra dose of attitude. Vaquera took belt-stacking to extremes, piling on gold and silver-plated styles punctuated by a sizeable buckle that wouldn’t look out of place on a boxing champion. Meanwhile, Ralph Lauren offered a more understated take, layering brown leather belts over white cargo trousers and a tank top, perfectly illustrating how to move this trend seamlessly from catwalk to everyday life.

Naturally, this new way of wearing belts has broken free from the runway. At Chanel’s Haute Couture spring/summer 25 show, Dua Lipa fashioned a set of layered pearl waist chains alongside the house’s signature black leather-and-gold chain belt, resulting in a striking monochrome finish.

Scandinavian street style enthusiasts have quickly embraced the look as well, demonstrating their knack for layering multiple belts over outerwear. Norwegian maximalist Nina Sandbech, for instance, matched belts in complementary tones on a long wool coat. At the same time, writer and model Sara Flaaen Licius anchored a classic beige raincoat with several belts — one of them a belt bag in a contrasting shade.
Keen to try this trend yourself? From delicate chain links to substantial leather pieces, stacking a variety of textures and widths is key. Below is our edit of the best belts to buy and layer now:
