Discover Vogue Scandinavia’s curated list of the best courts in the region
Scandinavia and the Nordic countries are undoubtedly best known for their winter sports. From cross-country skiing to dog sledding, frigid temperatures and copious snow constitute a prime environment for sport. But there are plentiful opportunities for summer sports to shine in the region, too - just ask Vogue Scandinavia’s newest digital cover star, Danish tennis pro Caroline Wozniacki.
In honour of her cover moment, we’ve put together a list of three stunning tennis courts perfect for shaking off that icy reputation and bringing Scandi tennis to the forefront.
Båstad, Sweden

There’s a reason that tournaments at Båstad have long been a favourite of Swedish tennis enthusiasts. The stunning seaside court features annually in the Nordea Open, an event on both the Women’s Tennis Association and Association of Tennis Professionals circuits. With stars from Björn Borg and Casper Ruud to Serena Williams and – of course –Caroline Wozniacki taking to the clay courts, the matches are as unmissable as the view.
Lofthus, Norway

One of Norway’s most beautiful tennis courts comes courtesy of Hotel Ullensvang in the town of Lofthus. Ever wanted to play a friendly match with a stunning view of the fjords? This is the place. The indoor court’s tranquil blue flooring and curtains reside under a gently curving roof, the floor-to-ceiling windows looking out on the gorgeous sight of Sørfjorden. It's a view that will take your breath away – if the cardio of a hard tennis match hasn't already!
Tampere, Finland

Tampere, Finland is home to its very own open tournament, a stop on the ATP Challengers series tour. While the facility has indoor courts, the clay courts outdoors are what truly shines. The terracotta hues find contrasting harmony with the verdant forest that surrounds, providing a beautiful backdrop to witness professional tennis or try out your own serving skills.
