Your favourite fashion film is making a return to the big screen. Here’s what we know so far about who from the cast is returning, and where the story may lead this time around

18 years after it made superstars out of Emily Blunt and Anne Hathaway, hit 2006 dramedy The Devil Wears Prada is getting a sequel. The announcement came today from Puck and Deadline, with the film’s original screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna tapped to return, and pen the next chapter. Reports claim that the film’s original director David Frankel and original producer Wendy Finerman are also in discussions to helm The Devil Wears Prada 2.0.

At the moment, it’s unclear whether the original cast will be making a comeback. Hathaway, who played protagonist Andy Sachs, has drawn additional parallels to her character in recent years thanks to a dramatic style makeover. At this year’s SAG Awards, there was also a Devil Wears Prada reunion, with Meryl Streep, Hathaway and Blunt presenting an award as a trio on stage. Nevertheless, when asked about the possibility of a direct sequel, Hathaway has expressed her hesitancy, and stated that she’d much rather “make something else”.

“I don’t think a continuation of that story is probably ever gonna happen,” Hathaway told E! News earlier this year in March. “The truth of the matter is—with any film—all we can do is make it. The reason that movie felt so special was that we were a team and we did that work, but really it's the love that everybody pours to it.”

It’s possible, then, that the sequel might deal with another storyline entirely—though if rumour is to be believed, Streep may very well appear again as the fearsome editor-in-chief of Runway, Miranda Priestly. A sequel to the Lauren Weisberger book that The Devil Wears Prada is based on, titled Revenge Wears Prada, might also serve as inspiration.

For those disappointed at the likelihood of Hathaway’s absence, however, the actress was quoted in 2022 about her dreams for the character, and ideas for what Andy might have gotten up to, post the credits on the original movie. “I think Andy is in Paris and I think that she is writing for a wonderful French women’s magazine,” she stated. “I think she's a staff writer and she speaks French fluently. And I don't think she’s married, but she might have a child or two. I think she’s pretty fab.”

We’re yet to confirm many details about the sequel, but rest assured we’ll be covering everything you need to know, right here. Until then, why not revisit the best Devil Wears Prada outfits? That’ll definitely keep you busy.
