Finland offers a myriad of stunningly picturesque locations to capture and share with the rest of the world, your feed will thank you
As characteristic for the whole of Scandinavia, Finland is a land of pristine nature, best known for its countless shimmering lakes and deep green forests. Inarguably, Finland is at its best during the freezing cold, snowy winters or the warm and breezy – sometimes even hot – summers. For a nature-loving Instagram enthusiast, plenty of gorgeous scenery awaits to be captured. Travel up north to Lapland and relish the breath taking views from the fells, whilst taking in the fresh air and the serenity of the untouched nature. But don’t fret – although many flock to Lapland for the ultimate experience of frolicking in the Finnish nature, stunning landscapes can be found with less travelling required.
National parks with glistening lakes and long, windswept beaches can be found in even just a few hours’ drive from the capital Helsinki. For someone with an appreciation towards fine design and architecture, an excursion around the capital is recommended, as Helsinki is the ultimate destination for capturing the beautiful, both old and modern design.
To help narrowing down the Instagram-worthy spots for your next visit to the land of thousand lakes, below we have compiled a list of the most picturesque places in Finland.
Huvilakatu
Located in one of Helsinki’s most affluent areas, Huvilakatu is a street where most likely when passing by, you’ll see at least an influencer or two capturing their 'outfit of the day' shots. The long street is adorned with beautifully hued art nouveau buildings, making the street absolutely picture-worthy, even if just for a memory on the camera roll.
Koli National Park
Koli National Park is where you’ll find signature Finnish nature at its finest, topped off with the most stunning views. Hike up to breathe in the crisp air and capture the beauty of the lush, vibrant green forests and deep blue lakes.
Ruka
Ruka is a fell located in northern Finland, and it’s also where you’ll find one of the most popular ski resorts in the country. At Ruka, you’ll be surrounded by picturesque spots, however the bests photos can be taken from the top of the fell, looking over the trees covered in snow blankets or capturing the sun that never sets.
Kalajoki
One might think that Finland is not a destination for great beaches, however located in Western Finland, Kalajoki beach is known for its’ vast sand dunes and long, bare beaches. Catch the sunset on the shore and capture the mesmerising golden and orange hues reflected from the ocean.
Roihuvuori Cherry Park
Sponsored by the Japanese community in Helsinki, 152 cherry trees were planted in Roihuvuori park. Come spring time, the park is one of the hottest spots in the city for beautiful photographs, as the cherry tree blossoms paint the whole park in soft baby pink.
Kilpisjärvi
Another stunning location for pure Finnish nature, Kilpisjärvi is a large lake located in Lapland. The lake opens up breath taking views to Saana, a fell that's one of the most popular nature destinations in Finland. Kilpisjärvi is at its best during the “nightless night” in Midsummer, or during the chilly winter when bright colourful northern lights emerge.
Porvoo old town
Just under an hours’ drive from Helsinki, you’ll find a small, adorable old town called Porvoo. The cobbled streets are adorned with colourful wooden houses, quirky little cafés and vintage boutiques. Porvoo is probably amongst the most photographed towns in the country, thanks to its historical scenery and beautiful architecture.
Oodi Central Library
Another example of Finnish design excellence is Oodi (an ode in English), the central library of Helsinki. Located in the heart of the city, with its glass and steel structures and wooden façade, Oodi is one of the most picturesque buildings in Helsinki – inside and out.
Levi igloos
Located near the extremely popular ski resort, Levi igloos are definitely worth a stay whilst on a trip to Lapland. During the winter season, the igloos offer a unique experience of witnessing and capturing the northern lights from the comfort and warmth of the igloo.
