Woven shoes
Though it's more or less an ancient greek sandal, the woven flat is very much of-the-moment. Our editor were chuffed to see this sensible flat – a mainstay in the early aughts – back on the runways as part of the ever-present boho revival (most notably at Chloé, natch). For those not up for top-to-toe boho, take a cue from Jacquemus' more sophisticated take or Fendi's relaxed approach, with easy everyday tailoring.

Lace-up flats
Flats are a given for the warmer season – especially when vacationing in places with cobblestoned streets. For spring/summer 2025, the flats du jour have criss-crossed laces snaking over the foot and crawling up the ankle.

Transparent shoes
Make sure to book regular pedicures this spring, because your tippy toes are set to the centre of attention sooner than you think with the season's standout transparent shoes. PVC heels courtesy of Amina Muaddi and Alaïa were introduced to their main collections season ago, but for spring/summer 25 these vinyl-like materials was joined by barely-there transparent mesh.

Retro sneakers
Secondhand and vintage finds its home in most wardrobes as a sustainable and affordable alternative to shopping the latest releases. So it came as no surprise when one of the biggest spring/summer 25 shoe trends was retro sneakers, especially given the overall sportiness of the SS25 collections. Invest in sneakers similar to those your parents wore to gymnastics and the tennis court, thin sole, complete with cotton uppers and lots of colour.

Heeled thong sandals
Bid adieu to your prejudice against thong sandals – an elevated (literally) flip flop is finally invited to black tie and fine dining thanks to the likes of Ferragamo and Alaïa.

Bejewelled heels
Quiet luxury be damned – this season designers took a more-is-more approach south of the ankle, with shoes adorned with crystals, sequins, pearls and bows.

Loafers
Loafers, arguably the it-shoe of last season, are back for another go, taking on inventive new shapes and forms for SS25. Calf length at Gucci, bedazzled at Tod's, scrunched at Jil Sander and classic at Miu Miu – whatever your preference, class is most certainly in session.

Metallics
We're totally mad for metallics – a spring/summer 2025 trend that found its way into both garments and shoes. This season found shimmery silvers and gold in footwear across the board, paired with vibrant tights and with matching metallic frocks. Maybe we just like shiny things.
